Our New PADI IDC Has Begun at Oceans 5 Gili Air
Our New PADI IDC
PADI IDC Gili Islands | Instructor Training Indonesia | Oceans 5 Gili Air |
The journey has started! Today we kicked off a new PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) at Oceans 5 Gili Air. JoJo and Ezmee are stepping up from divemaster to instructor, committing to 20 days of focused training that turns strong divers into confident, environmentally aware PADI Instructors. Under the guidance of PADI Course Director Waz, they’ll sharpen teaching skills, polish control, and learn how to protect the reef while leading students safely.
What the Next 20 Days Look Like
Days 1–3: Reset & Refine
We begin by refreshing diving knowledge and core skills. It’s not about ticking boxes—it’s about tightening control, streamlining in-water positioning, and rebuilding habits that make future students feel safe. The first workshops also cover standards, risk management, and how to brief clearly and teach with purpose.
Days 4–10: Workshops That Matter
This is where the IDC comes alive. Expect practical, hands-on sessions that mirror real teaching:
Rescue Workshop: How to teach rescue skills (not just perform them), building decisive responses and clear role assignments.
Advanced Workshops: Navigation, lift bag, knots, deep procedures, and—crucially—buoyancy coaching you can apply with any student.
DSD Workshop (Try Dive): How to introduce first-timers to diving with the right briefings, standards, and in-water progressions.
Paperwork & Certification: The unglamorous but essential side—forms, medicals, PICs, and staying audit-ready.
Days 11–18: Teaching Presentations & Open Water Control
Candidates deliver classroom, confined, and open-water presentations with detailed feedback. Waz focuses on calm control, hazard anticipation, and how to fix problems underwater without stressing your students or the reef. You’ll learn to spot the “missing LEGO piece” in a student’s understanding and plug it—cleanly and confidently.
Days 19–20: Polish and Mindset
We consolidate standards knowledge, rehearse exam scenarios, and fine-tune professionalism so candidates walk into the Instructor Examination steady, prepared, and ready to lead.
Our Teaching Philosophy: Control + Conservation
Great instructors control their groups and protect the environment. Around the Gili Islands—inside the Gili Matra Marine Park—that’s non-negotiable. We emphasize:
Neutral-Buoyancy Training over kneeling whenever conditions allow
Low-impact skills practice and clear positioning to avoid contacting coral
Briefings that include conservation behaviors (finning, spacing, hand placement)
Role-model guiding so students learn to value the reef from day one
We don’t just prepare you to pass an exam; we prepare you to teach anywhere with a professional, eco-minded approach that dive centers value.
Upcoming IDC Start Dates
10 September
15 October
19 November
Each IDC has limited spaces to keep training personal, feedback-rich, and stress-managed. If you want coaching that targets your weaknesses and builds real teaching confidence, these are the courses to join.
About 2026 IDC Dates
Oceans 5 hasn’t announced IDC dates for 2026 yet. We’ll share updates later this year as soon as our schedule is confirmed. If you’d like to be first in line, tell us your preferred month and we’ll keep you in the loop.
Ready to become a different kind of instructor—confident, adaptable, and conservation-minded? JoJo and Ezmee just pressed “go.” Your turn next.
